Team Racing for All (24/05/2026)

Club Team Racing day

We will be running a Team racing event for club members on Sunday 24 May. This is planned to be a two-boat team racing event using the club Firefly fleet with teams of 4 sailors (two helms and two crews). Depending on numbers, we may race in Toppers instead (two sailors per team).

The event will consist of many short races. Each race will see two teams (of two boats each) compete around one lap of a short course. Each team's aim is to avoid coming last (fourth) on the water: if one of your team's two boats comes last, then your team loses the race. Team racing involves trying to slow down boats from the opposite team to make sure that one of their boats finishes last. Each race is short, with a 3-2-1-0 start sequence during which much jostling for position on the start line is expected.

Please register your team now! If you are a junior with team racing experience, please register a team and come and show other club sailors what team racing is all about.

WOSC Regatta weekend (06/06/2026)

The WOSC Regatta is an open event which will take place over two days, from Saturday 6 June to Sunday 7 June.

This is a celebration to which all club members are warmly invited. Please come and join us for racing, social sailing, swimming or simply socialising. As this is a social event, it is a great opportunity if you are new to racing.

There are three General Handicap races scheduled on each day at 12:00, 14:00 and 15:30; each race will last around an hour. There are separate prizes for each day of racing (2 to count out of 3). In order to win the Regatta Cup, you will need to sail on both days (5 to count out of 6). Club boats are available without charge to members who take part in racing.

We have organised professionally cooked pizzas on Saturday evening, to be booked in advance (see below for details). Also on Saturday evening, we will hold the prize-giving ceremony at 19:00 for first, second and third place in each of the race series completed in 2025; there are other prizes, for example for most improved sailors. Why not come and cheer as prizes are handed out? The bar will be open, camping is available on Saturday evening and we plan to party on Saturday evening.

In order for us to have enough food for everyone, we will ask you to pre-order your pizzas directly (details to be confirmed). We expect the pizzas to be ready from around 18:30 on Saturday evening.

Please note that there is no galley at lunch time on Saturday, so please remember to bring your own lunch. There will be galley as usual on Sunday, when the first race of the day finishes at around 13:00.

We will light the barbecue on Sunday evening, for those who want to cook their own food and enjoy a drink from the bar whilst the prizes for the regatta are handed out. The regatta is a family occasion and visitors are welcome; please sign visitors in as usual. We are hoping to see many of you at the club.

"Evening 1" series Wednesday club racing starts on 1 April 2026 and continues through the next 11 Wednesdays with the last race of the Series on 17 June.

Start time is 19:00 in April, moving to 19:15 in May and June; the race will last approximately 1 hour.

7 out of 12 to count - Single start, single finish from which Fast and Slow fleet results will be taken.

The results from Evening 1 and Evening 2 will also be combined for the "Evening Paddle" General Handicap series (13 out of 24 to count).

Fast are classed as boats with PYN 1109 (Wayfarer) and below.

Slow are classed as boats with PYN above 1109.

Come and Join in, plus the bar is usually open for an hour after racing finishes and the barbeque will be lit up for those wanting to cook their meal after racing.

Novices Regatta (13/09/2026)

General Handicap racing for novice club racers

The Novices Regatta is aimed at club members with some sailing experience but no or limited racing experience.

Adult and Junior helms can qualify by taking part in at least two Saturday Recreational Sailing sessions, or by completing the RYA adult level 3 or RYA Youth Stage 3/4 course. Experienced club sailors cannot take part as helms but are allowed to crew for a novice helm.

There will be briefing at 11:30. The Novices Regatta will consist of between 3 and 5 races of 30-40 minutes around a simple course. The single general handicap start will follow the usual 5-4-1-0 sequence. The first race will start at 12:00 (preparatory signal at 11:55). The number of races will depend on the conditions on the day; there will be one discard if 3 or more races are sailed.

General Handicap results based on the boat Portsmouth Number will be calculated and prizes will be given on the day for the first three boats.
